enbar says: An Oxford professor examines the gradual takeover of all policy writing on education by the language of business management: "efficiency," "providers," "audits," "performance indicators," etc. This kind of thinking, he says, has gradually obscured any legitimate answer to the question of what education is really supposed to accomplish. Runs against Einstein's comments about education and imagination. Teachers are faced with teaching to tests, even at primary school levels. The big word in Australia is "accountability". The logic is to put pressure on teachers to work with limited resources, rather than asking for resources that will encourage students to think. It doesn't matter to govt/business as they need public schools to not educate and thus provide the slave class. The rich can use the private schools to educate properly and provide the upper class with the top jobs and thus perpetuate their class position. It is all called training nowadays. Training has neat boxes to tick and neat boxes to put neat people into. |
