The rent party played a major role in the development of jazz and blues music. Thus, the word became associated with informal music. However, many notable jazz musicians are associated with rent parties, including <A title="Piano" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piano">pianists</A> <A title="Speckled Red" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speckled_Red">Speckled Red</A>, <A title="James P. Johnson" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_P._Johnson">James P.
