Anecdotal reports and helicopter flyovers suggested the looting of artifacts has been widespread.</p> <P>To find the extent of the problem, archaeologist Elizabeth Stone at Stony Brook University in New York examined images from Digital Globe Corporation, a private satellite imaging company.
