Not so sure the offering of there processor time is a good idea, but the ability to mash up there search results is something that I among many others have been wishing google would give away for years now. If they give away there processor time, then what good is it going to be? In no time, there server farm will be so overburdened that there service will rapidly die. On the other hand, this could happen just from allowing the mashups. Of course there then becomes the problem of how to pay for infrastructure upgrades when your not making any money...

I see... Well, that totally changes it. I guess the non mashup offerings may be usefull to some people, but I find it hard to believe that many companys out there would want to have a copy of the entire index or even have them process the whole web when you can do a search via an api and only get what you want without having to buy 100 terabytes worth of storage space. That much you can do with google now and have been able to for quite some time. It's even free if you keep it under a certain amount of searches.
