So, the President, whose main responsibility is to protect US citizens and establish national security, has given precedence to naval operations over the protection of sea mammals off-shore.

Amazing. A President who places protection of us over animals. What a novel idea! He'll be blasted but whatever.......Save the whales, save the manatees, save the forests, save the Everglades, save the panthers....you name it.

We DO have a responsibility to protect and secure our environment, but this stuff (and other restrictions that thwart energy independence and security) is ridiculous. Both can be accomplished.

With moderate, reasonable choices.

Turning the sonar off when whales are around would be moderate and reasonable.

I'm not sure manuering without the aid of sonar would be safe for a submurged sub, in relation to possibly striking another sub or maybe even the whales, seems sort of like driving while blindfolded. I would think if sonar bothers whales that much, the whales are more than capable of avoiding the subs in the first place.
