Doesn't it also demonstrate a lack of effort and commitment by the players themselves who for better or worse are commodities owned by their respective clubs.

These men are paid an absolute fortune by their owners to perform well in the Premiership and other divisions. But in Internationals: take it easy boys, your owners wouldn't want you to hurt yourselves and cost them money.
