it never made sense to me why religion hates science so much. there should be no conflict. science merely tries to explain how and why things happen. if god created the universe, he had to do it somehow. religion prefers to explain it as magic? i prefer to think that if there's a god who created the universe, it took a long freakin' time and lots of work. god wouldn't have any time limits. the 24 hour day didn't exist yet.

Maybe it doesn't make sense because it is not true. There may be some idiots, but this is not Christianity as a whole. Christians embrace and in many ways lead the way in science. In fact, It is Christians that hold to the testing of hypotheses when the current trend is toward consensus and "faith-based" science.

well, the wackos are quite loud, then, considering the evolution-in-school debate raging right now.

The wackos are always the loudest. But the evolution / ID debate is more about a fair exchange of ideas.
Have you heard of Anthony Flue (sp). He was one of the world's leading Philosopher/Atheists. Well, he has come around to being a deist based partly on the arguments of Intelligent design. He has said: The science of ID has answered every point on evolution, but evolutionist's have not answered a single point if ID ( paraphrase).
Here is the world's leading philosopher on the idea of theist scepticism admitting he was wrong about decades of writing books, giving speeches, engaging in debates, and teaching about atheism.
Higdonius, you may be a much smarter person than Mr Flue, but I do...
