Personally, I think the internet has influenced the increase of people stepping out and proclaiming their disbelief - be it full on atheist, or those that no long simply accept their religious dogma. Before the internet many people had these thoughts and suspicions, but really had no way of knowing how many others shared their doubts because to question them could really put one in a bind with their church/community/family. Religion suffers when people start to really think about and question its claims. With the anonymity of the internet people get that chance to share notes, seek out answers to questions, and discover the real truths behind the claims. @Oortcloud I tend to agree. Thank god for the Internet. @AcesLucky ... I'm still laughing... tears in my eyes... thanks! And God bless the Burmese monks. Buddhists are atheists With the ugly things happening in the world today. What kind of God with any moral, would not do something about it. Here's one of them now! to cptenuad theres a battle of amadgeddon in the book of revelations. You know in the old testament God was NASTY now he is chillin but in the future hell fire will consome the earth.....Jihad ain't got nothing on this k.... oh and about the whole god letting the world go bad ...... he gave us edan we messed up the he gave us earth we messed up we took religion and ten commendments and revised and its only now we see the fall of man....What! God giving us chances but it won't be long till he does kill destroy and abilterate us......... K when he is done his is gonna make satan look like an angel read revelations and freak out the existence of God is beyond the bible. Not only in its pages. To me, God is no other thing, but scent. Thats what evangelicals, should really, look around. In the bases around us. You know in the old testament God was NASTY now he is chillinKinda defeats the idea of an eternal perfect god ... but in the future hell fire will consome the earthWhich is why its very important to keep sharp objects and items that go BOOM away from religious nuts who want to self fulfill their mystical prophecies. he gave us edan we messed upEven taking the story literally I would argue that no one "messed up" Eden. An all knowing god (that means he knows everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen) puts an "off limits" item in mankinds living space along with a being who's sole purpose is to tempt mankind away from god. It w... Sorry, I got cut off at the end. The last sentance should have read "Here is a list of Ending stories for your enjoyment". Oortcloud i read your Ending notes they were interesting but you have science and number a thories just like i have philosohpy, mythology, nicrodamus, thories etc. We dont know the exact end of time or the fall of men exccept that there in an inevitable end and thanks for the read i totally forgot to tell you that some crazy fuax a** fudalmentelist is to on day hijack the world he is called the antichrist ....... and will do some real bad sh*t look into that. ortcloud i read the other stuff to umm yeah a about satan killing,..... satan kills if god lets him cause satan knows that his ass can and will be beat if he just has a party one day (just dilibreatly kills) and as for God being nasty okay God has bad days when he leaves to go to the bathroom only to turn around and see us do some stupide shit, he kills people off why? Cuz hes annoyed ( play the sims on auto. and you'll want to kill them off to)....plus didnt i say we stole the bible and revised it....used the ten commendments etc. etc. hmmmmm. what i ment in the fall of man was ethically and that excludes ( all old jewish law books: Leviticus etc Judges etc.....)..about satan looking like ... mc89, I'm not sure if you are having one on, or if you are really that unaware of how ridiculous your position is? You seem to chastise me for having conclusions and beliefs based on evidence, proof, knowledge, and understanding while you choose to have your beliefs based upon mythology, philosophy, prophecy, and unproven or even unsubstantiated theory. In other words, as I've always said, believers believe only because they want to believe - that they cannot face the fact what they think they know as truth is actually fiction. You have openly stated that you choose delusion over reality. he is called the antichristI fear the antichrist about as much as I fear Beowulf's Grend... I donot mind that you think god is unreal or that there isnt a superior power out there but since the dawn of time man has always tought of a super being(s) just becuase you like facts doesnt mean i have to , just becuase you do not believe what is unreal, nontangiable and unfactual that i must agree...... m... have you ever heard of a thing called bible codes In the 1990s, a new way to prophetically interpret the Bible was found. Proposed by Eliyahu Rips, it was said that words and short phrases were hidden in the Hebrew Bible as skip-letter sequences (every 30th letter, for example). The mathematical probability for several coded words which are related to occur within the same area of the Bible was calculated to be enormously greater than chance, though mathematicians with formal training in statistical analysis place this figure at 1:2. A comprehensive explanation of how this phenomenon can occur naturally was later published in 1999 by Brendan McKay et al., although the Bible code continues t... a new way to prophetically interpret the Bible was found. Here's one you haven't mentioned... 1. Open lid of trash can 2. Drop bible in 3. Replace lid Prophecy fulfilled, per the clip title. The bible code is not real. They have take classic novels and applied the same antilogarithms to them and found these classic novels generated the same type of results. Just to clear things up a bit ... christ was and is the one who was sacrificed in order that he mayJohn 10:30 "I and the Father are one" John 8:58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" Colossians 2:9 "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form" Again, you are altering the theme of an eternal god, which is fine by me - I am merely showing how people cherry pick religion to fit their own religious desires. But the source of your knowledge plainly states that god and christ are one and the same. To say that god was never "super kind" and christ is the one that allo... As for the rest of your comments, again, practice some English structure because trying to hash my way through that long unbreaking mash of words is folly at best. Bible codes, Prophets, a mish mash of legends and myths, and I suppose UFO's and alien miracles are in there as well. The one uniting theme in them all? No proof. Simply a desire to believe because it simply sounds good. Sorry, but your idea of truth is badly skewed. I would seriously encourage you to at least learn your own belief system. Your comments come out so jumbled and random that you simply come off as an uneducated fundy that believes anything relating to god - even those things that contradict one another. I'm afraid t... if im fuddy your cruddy now die about jesus i already knew he was one with god (he's used interchangeblely godness and god did sacrifice him) grrrrrr. and didnt i say the bible was toyed with didnt i hmmmmmmmmm (there are more then 7 versions okay) .... there are things missing lost chapters ...... AS for bible codes and nasterdamus(sry about nicro whatever) i didnt say i beleved in them but used them as example i also said that other books have been put through the same process and have came up with prophecies to duh.. about the whole god being not super kind he was firm and solid look at exodus and also how he treated moses when he was disobeyed............ God was firm not flexible.. firm.... i remember also writng about how there were multiple time gaps "more than 7 versions"A bit of an understatement. There are literally thousands of various gods and goddesses created by mankind over the ages. Even going by the more Major religions of today you are still looking at a variety of 22 different gods/ideals and when you focus on Christianity you are looking at least 100 different translations of the same book - and that's just pointing out the ones in the English language. And then looking at only Christianity we find hundreds of differing denominations... how long will this fight last hmmmmmmmmm but certain churches have certain books... that their churches made(y cuz after the split and martin luther many churches did not want to unify in theology) o and all the christian churches don't like each other (ex. cathos. dont like protestant and baptist dont like any thing orthodox~like med.,eastern orto. etc.).....in the chapters 2-3 in the book of revelations it has 7 letters that are addressed to these churches not like literally but personally....... this not fun, people are stupide as far as i know we will forever be changing, deleting adding and removing text why cuz we can and use words and text and the power behind for evil period Ironically, an article describing my last points was just posted. An interesting read on the wide variety of churches. this not fun, people are stupide as far as i know we will forever be changing, deleting adding and removing textThey are man's words. It's only natural that they would want to change them to reflect a shift in emotional and moral evolution as well as new knowledge gainted from science and discovery. They are also changed as people develop new ideas on what they think god should be like. It's called cherry picking. Keep the stuff you like, ignore the stuff you don't, and add or re-interpr... meancookie89, in real life, Ruchama, is probably very bright. I just read a poem of hers entered in her High School Student Publish website. The poem is rather quite nice and written in perfectly constructed English. She could probably learn quite a bit at Clipmarks and we could probably learn something from her. If she would write like she is capable of writing I know people would take her far more seriously. I never argued against mc89 being bright or not. I tried to point out the flaws of some of the things they said as well as complain about the overly sloppy grammar they were using. Earlier this person put importance on respect, yet doesn't respect anyone enough to provide an easily legible pros to present their points and comments. Thus far mc89's points are identical to those you would find from most garden variety Christians - uneducated in their own religion and too stubborn/lazy/indoctrinated to question their own beliefs. "Satan is going to get us, God is great, and Jesus saves". They've also thrown in some Nostradamus, Bible math, and prophesy to appear more fluent with their subject ... Sorry Oortcloud, I wasn't intending to make any commentary against you or anything you said. I actually intended that for her to read. Granted she is only 16 or 17 but I find that type of writing annoying. She had made a bunch of comments and was just encouraging her to speak articulately since she is capable of doing so. Carry on with the debate. Not all christians are uneducated about the religion... In fact its just that they are to many view points that differ. As are result of this, seclusion of the churches have occurred. These churches wish not to believe in unifing with text and views because of the history of abuse. To begin with most christians do know the history of the church and why it has become the way it has (the missing books etc..) ...Now you ask me vaguely .. why would any one follow an adaptable religion... as to all things in life that are doubted, mystified and of course played with there is some truth to it k. And humans have an incessant whim to adjust things to their liking why cause we can do so. As for ... Not all christians are uneducated about the religion.Which is why I said "most garden variety Christians...". But don't fool yourself, of the 83% of Americans that claim to be Christian and only 41% read the Bible outside of church service in a typical week. Source; Interesting Read Interesting Statistics That's a difference of 42% between acclaimed Christians and those that read the bible - and this doesn't even take into effect those that read... Sigh, dammit. I hate that clipmarks is inacurate in its word count when using the text editor. My final statement was : My generation that goes to church <snip> are bored of it,I know. I even clipped it. It is my belief that the internet has dealt organized religioned a hard blow. The young are not as indoctrinated as the older generations and see the inconsistencies and contradictions or what they are. With the access to knowledge on the internet religion cannot simply say "have faith" when the true answers are right there for people to find. As for christians themselves, they do believe in the basics that there... I remember writing that Christianity is divided up against each other and differ in what they believe... and how the various churches don't want to unify. As for the whole comment on how the dabatebles are left up to the individual and his God .....I could of left the his part out but I didn't why cause I plainly didn't. Now if you want to play the petty game of semantics etc. go ahead (it's 1 of 2 cards you have in your deck anyways). I'd like to comment on how you've said that I have torn down the idea of a true God while trying to establish the differing beliefs of a God. Also how the belife system is all made up etc. There is a God and there's cherry picking the cherry picking exist caus... This is just going in circles. The worste part is I cannot fathom what point you are trying to make at any given time. I refuse to try and figure out the syntax of what you are writing any more. How can you expect anyone to figure out what the hell you mean with sentances (if you want to call them that) like this : "I could of left the his part out but I didn't why cause I plainly didn't" "There is a God and there's cherry picking the cherry picking exist cause of how past word play has taken something that was so simple (and at one time existed) and made it into something complex when things were added." Now for Homer and the illad that's a poem idiot don't you dare take one of my... Hey Oortcloud Quick question. How do you know you're not talking to a chatterbot? Check out: Science Talk; the Podcast of Scientific American At iTunes: Sept. 26, 2007 [description] "In this episode, psychologist Robert Epstein talks about his articles in the upcoming issue of Scientific American Mind, on being fooled by a chatterbot--a computer program designed to make you think you're communicating with a human--and on the spectrum of human sexuality." Your conversation made me think of it. Chuckle chuckle Your link brought me to an ITunes advertisement. I only just finally rid my system of ITunes so wasn't eager to accept the download and install Oortcloud - Here is a link to the actual "Science Talk" web page. You will have to find the specific pod cast that talks about the subject that AcesLucky refers to. http://www.sciam.com/podcast/ Sorry; it takes me directly to it. But then I have iTunes installed. I'm an avid podcast listener. Thanks ezsparky. I'd just had a bad experience with ITunes. I installed it because a site I frequented for movie previews changed and when I "updated" I got ITunes. The update messed up alot of my default settings for movie and music play and the silly thing would try to update several times a day, each time saying the update failed. A few other things started going wrong and I couldn't get things back to normal till after I uninstalled ITunes. Needless to say I'm a bit wary of them now Thanks for the new link. I have my iTunes stabilized and I don't update it until there is a specific change I want. I don't use it so all the little updates can suck my ass. I only have it because it is forceware to get the QuickTime software |
