And as we now know, they did this often with the utmost hypocrisy towards these same people.

Today's decline in people's opinion of the validity of global warming is the result of this spread of misinformation and ignorance concerning how science works anad the clash between religion and science. A large portion of Americans continue to believe the Biblical Creation myth is fact while discounting evolution despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Until a major shift in thinking and education occurs in this country I don't think there will be a major shift in the attitude of much of the population. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and more substantial positive measures will be implemented to address this serious matter.
