Allein die Bedürftigkeit eines Menschen ist das Kriterium diakonisch-kirchlicher Unterstützung - nicht sein Pass und nicht sein Aufenthaltsstatus. Deshalb ermutigen und unterstützen die Evangelische Kirche (EKHN) und das Diakonische Werk in Hessen und Nassau (DWHN) nicht nur ihre Mitarbeitenden, Menschen ohne Aufenthaltspapiere in ihren Einrichtungen je nach Bedarf zu beraten, zu betreuen, zu erziehen, zu unterrichten und medizinisch zu versorgen.
