2nd, and its first week has been packed with emotional visits
with survivors of war, a long meeting with Iranian Vice
President Esfandiar Rahim Mashaee, countless engaging
conversations with ordinary Iranians, and visits to several

diplomats" has been received with open arms. Just days before
its arrival in Tehran, a group of nine Iranian women --
scholars, researchers, journalists, and officials -- were denied
visas to the United States, where they were scheduled to
participate in the 51st U.N. Commission on the Status of Women
international conference. "We are very grateful that the Iranian
government did not rescind our visas, despite this unfortunate
