It appears some Yanks (many, actually) still refuse to accept their nation now practices torture, kidnapping of suspects, rendition, imprisonment without legal representation, imprisonment without access to the Red Cross, imprisonment without any contact with family or the outside world, imprisonment without a trial, and indefinite detention.- -- all violations of the Geneva Convention besides USA law and previous democratic principles and foundation -- all that now ripped to shreds by Bush, Republican warmongers and so-called 'neo-cons.'

The new elections can't come soon enough.

Until now it was commonly assumed that US law permitted kidnapping only in the “extraordinary rendition” of terrorist suspects.

The American government has for the first time made it clear in a British court that the law applies to anyone, British or otherwise, suspected of a crime by Washington.

“If you kidnap a person outside the United States and you bring him there, the court has no jurisdiction to refuse — it goes back to bounty hunting days in the 1860s.”

“That is United States law.”

The US Justice Department declined to comment.

trials now announced for six of the 'Gitmo' prisoners, after years of them being in jail. The trial procedure is questionable and will probably be challenged. It could be years more before any judgements.
