zasel says: Voter disenfranchisement is something that must be gotten rid of. When a person commits a crime, and is sentenced to prison or jail, they do not become less of a citizen. Their crime is being paid for with the loss of their physical freedom, but their citizenship is not taken away from them as part of it. It is only the Republican party that benefits from the use of voter disenfranchisement, and they constantly fight any effort to do away with this practice. In Florida, for example, it was demonstrated as to how tens of thousands of men were disenfranchised from voting by the manipulation of names in the prison registries. This is an undemocratic process and it must be dealt with, if we want to remain the so-called beacon of Democracy throughout the world. What a huge guffaw that is. |
