Are we electing a president or a sheriff? From the Republican point of view its the same. For a group that enjoys to bash Hollywood, they sure drink in the celluloid fantasies of control, power, violence and dominion. Friend of mine says this is the delusion that comes from night after night of "24" and "CSI": the idea that a person with a gun can somehow make things right. It just ain't so. Well its go back to the 1950s when Hollywood and Washington reinforced each other with cowboy movies and fluffy sitcoms. Bad guys where brown (or black or yellow or wore jack boots), good guys where white, where Americans from Wisconsin named Jack or Charlie, women stayed at home and everybody was happy. I deal with the issue on my podcast (Where Hollywood and the American Myth Collide) and I suggest you read this book as well....The End of Victory Culture. Good tips, thanks! Podcasts don't fit my life too well, but I'll be looking for the book. |
