It's saying that merely calling oneself a Christian doesn't mean that one is actually following the teachings of Christ.

In Luke 6:46, Jesus says, "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?"

As someone who isn't Christian, I think it's important to remember that the hatemongers who claim to be Christians are not living by the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.

I don't hate or fear Christians. Most of the people I know who try to live Christian lives are good, loving, generous people who think that passages like Luke 6:27-28 ("But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.") express wh...

That is not apparent from this comment:

I guess the reason that I did not see the point of the clip was that it entirely misses the perspective of the Christian and applies a caricature of those that generally mock Christians. Christians recognize the trasformitive power of grace. However, perfection is not an expectation. You certainly can make the case that many Christians appear hypocritical, but hypocricy is not really the correct word because we all fall short and there is nothing we can c...

An easy shot at Christians. I suspect that there are Christians, Muslim, Jews etc who don't behave like Christians, Muslims, Jews. Just a human thing.

The irony is that the *world* looks at our behavior...which I agree should look more Christ-like. However, being a Christian means that you acknowledge that you ARE a sinner; ie...not perfect and need a Redeemer and a substitute Atonement for sin. AND the *world* only chooses certain portions of the teachings of Christ that bolster their claims of hypocrisy among Believers. It's so much more than "lookin' good". It's knowing we are not and *believing* that Christ has made us righteous before a holy God because of our faith in His work...not ours.

Would you prefer they be like the Muslims who follow the Koran and kill dozens of people every day?

I agree that too many people are "pretend Christians". They don't know what the Bible really says about anything, they just take twisted traditions and things they think the Bible says and think they are living a "good life". This in turn, in their mind, gives them the right to completely ignore their own obvious faults and point the other finger at the other person. As far as "hate mongers" are concerned, it depends what you're talking about. Opposing immoral conduct, progressive fascism, and a whole host of other societal ills doesn't make one a "hate monger".

jmjoness, it was just a bit of sarcasm in that I haven't heard that phrase very often outside of my own regular use. I've been accused of being every right leaning clipper at clipmarks (not that I have any indication how you lean) and I was just quipping (joking) that now even I am suspicious.

I am not sure what tanyamm's point was unless she was just describing what she herself was doing ( looking for an argument that isn't there).

Jesus said that it is better that you should chain a stone around your neck and throw it in the ocean than to lead someone astray with your non-Christian behavior. So as Christians we need to continue to try harder. I hope that we can expect the same from Isalm.

Why must human being insist on being so obtuse. If one wishes to be a better Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist , Jain , Pagan, Atheist, etc, it is NOT that difficult, nor is it the least bit mysterious ..... just do one's best to follow the "Golden Rule; all the rest is merely rhetoric and show.

I thought Jesus said that it was better to tie a millstone around your neck and cast it into the sea if you offend a child (abuse a child). Ofcourse that is certainly non-Christian behaviour, but still...
