Sarcasm is not wit, tis merely the babbling of a diseased mind.

I don't always believe the above to be true, however I've always liked that line

sarcasm-witty cruelty wrapped up in a frail mind but none the less cynical

Sarcasm at it's best is cruel.

I have seen it used as a weapon by a few teachers and felt that corporal punishment didn't scar me as much as that would have. Not necessarily the teachers fault as they were shocked when it was pointed out, just a desperate grab for control.
