I totally agree with @enbar, this act is not justified by any religion.

I feel distressed after watching comments by other clippers though. What i expect from them was to criticise the act and the person but they are targeting the religion (was this described in religion?). I can see from this who are fundamentalist. By the way i feel proud to be fundamentalist in any field let it be religion or studies.

You should talk about much harder penalty than five years, 5 years are nothing for this act of wildness. Hang this man in open and then see how many people commit this wild act.

Case in point: The University of Toronto pool has set aside special hours for muslim women to swim so that they don't have to be subject to the company of men -- female lifegaurds, muslim females only hours.

If a white supremacist group asked for black-free time... well you get the point. Why do the biases of a religion (anti-male) get special treatment? Why are the religious delusions of islamic moral authority being integrated into our society?

Fundamentalists of all sorts can be found throughout history... but we are not yet a part of history, and we have a duty/right to the society that gave us our lives to exercise a hand in how our history will be shaped. The academic distance of historical perspective serves as an excuse for non-action or complacency, as is an abuse of the privledge of studying history in the first place. The fundamentalist muslim society turned its back on its own history (mathematics, architecture, poetry), subjugating all to the koran. We are doing the same, subjugating all to indifferent mind of rationalization of our inability/unwillingness to stand for our beliefs.

Let's focus our minds on preventing this fundamentalist death cult from prospering in our lives, our narrative, our history.

I understand what you're saying, I think, and I'm sympathetic. I think your point is that it's all well and good to intellectualize and historicize about what sorts of extremes various cultures have been capable of in the past, but right now, we have to deal with a present threat, and we don't have the luxury of taking a long view all the time. As I say, I understand and am sympathetic to this. However, I also believe that we are dooming ourselves to repeated and disastrous failures in these struggles if we delude ourselves into thinking we don't need to understand where these conflicts come from or how they might appear from a different perspective. Ultimately this is a battle of ideas, and you cannot win a battle of ideas simply by ignoring the other guy, as horrific as his ideas may seem.

At least, that's my take on the situation.
