“Accordingly, this research suggests that
marketers should consider not only the tradeoffs among the alternatives
when making a choice, but also the relationship of this choice to past
or future choices.”
The 'relationship of a choice to past and future choices' is an interesting definition for committment.

I definitely agree with you FtF, maybe we need add the word "tension" between choices and the goal becomes accessible more readily?

If i get your meaning wildcat, adding 'tension' between choices introduces a change on 'goal' itself. Accordingly, 'goal' as i undertand it here becomes a coherency of said tension and indeed more accessible.

Once you have successfully internalised a fantasy of a golden future, you stop focusing on the present. Future frenzy is one of the manifestations of political impotence and the refusal to engage with the mere reality of the present. Future frenzy is one of the main mechanisms by which consumerism maintains its power and alienates people from understanding of their present lives. And not.
