Maybe all of these wonderfully western looking Iranians can vote to not have their leaders giving support to terrorists going over to Iraq and killing those 50,000 to 500,000 innocent civilians instead of looking the other way. Oh thats right. They can't vote.

USM, you're mistaken, they can vote and they have. Whether we like to accept the results or not is another story (remember, Palestinians voted as well??....nobody accepted except for those who voted, so that is another problem)

Saddam let people vote too. Of course it was his name on the ballot and no one else, but hey, they got to stand in line and get a "I voted" sticker when they left the booth.

That is not the point. People do all sorts of stuff in their own countries and they have rights to select whomever they want via their votes. The point is to respect people's decision, right or wrong is their problem and not ours.

You know, if the others had any say in American elections, GWB would have been out of work a while ago.

the problem, my friends, is that, sadly, there is no actual vote.
To vote means to choose, and they are just stating their confidential preference to the goverment, where there is no real vote because the goverment cheats

Unfortunately, arifsali, your little montage only shows part of the story. I could easily come up with even better pictures of Germany in the 30's. Nice-looking, clean people, beautiful cities, countryside etc. Doesn't mean squat. Same with these images. Because there are images that are missing, images of weapons being brought to Lebanon, Iraq, images of terrorists in Iraq (why do you think ah-my-men-are-dead was so against the fact that Bush allowed US to find and kill Iranians in Iraq? if they weren't there - what's there to worry about?) And add to that the images of enriched uranium, images of his speeches calling for destruction of Israel and the USA. How's that for adding some faces to put things into perspective?

So, without these 'glimpses' - your assumption was that people of Iran have horns and live on black snow? If pictures were all we needed - we wouldn't have the problems that we have today. It should be obvious to anyone that saddam hussein came out of a woman, was a child, went to school, etc., not unlike you and me. That of course didn't stop him from blowing some chemical weapons into the faces of his fellow citizens.

All this back-and-forth regarding Iranian elections -- does anyone actually have any facts at their disposal? It's my understanding that elections in Iran are considerably freer and fairer than, say, elections in Egypt or Saudi Arabia (our close allies and, in Egypt's case, our second-biggest foreign aid recipient). The bigger problem is that the power of the elected government is sharply curtailed relative to the power of the religious council, which is unelected. Does anyone know if that's true or not?

Democracy is understood differently in different places and its rules are different too. Remember how GW Bush won? - majority of Americans voted for Gore .
Besides why is it wrong for Iran to have nuclear weapons and right for USA, China, India Pakistan and of course Israel and others to have and brag about them.

USA is the only country that has used not one but two nuclear bombs. It is also the country that has used most amount of chemical weapons.(Napalm bombs , Agent orange)

NUCLEAR WEAPONS SHOULD BE BANNED FOR ALL -
USA included. Otherwise they do not have a moral right to stop others.

Since dropping the two bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we have shown responsibilty and restraint with our overwhelming military power. We do not have the radical political instability in the US that exists in Iran, etc.

If Iran persists, we have a duty to the entire world to swiftly eradicate their nuclear capabilities...and we will despite the protests of those which live in little snowglobes.

I seem to recall the US came to the aid of Iran when invaded by Iraq in the fist Gulf War. Had we not come to her defense, Iran would be no more than an extension of Saddam's ruthless, genocide plagued, dictatorship. So, on behalf of the US that I support, you are welcome. Otherwise what would your pictures be? Have you forgotten so soon?
