That's a great point, I completely forgot to factor in inflation when I was thinking about buying a bunch of forever stamps. Still nice to have some around for that week after a stamp price increase so you don't end up having to make an extra trip for new stamps or do what us lazy people do and stick two of the old ones on there. N2, I still have a bunch of 3 cent stamps from the last postage increase. We discussed this clip (and were honestly a bit befuddled trying to explain how inflation can make something more expensive in "tomorrow's dollars") on today's Clipiversity video podcast. Thanks for the great clip! I wonder why the post office doesn't just switch over to forever stamps. Or more specifically, make first class stamps and post card stamps, then have some stamps of different denominations for items of different weight. Then they don't have to change stamps whenever they up the postage rates. I would think the amount they save in having to print up new stamps and such would make up for the slight losses of people stocking up. Or heck, with postage going up slower than inflation, it might even make them money. |
