Jeffro2pt0 says: Wow. Skype initially blamed their own software, now Microsoft is the culprit. MS always seems to get the blame Interesting because Skype never actually said what software update they thought was responsible. It is a bit of an assumption to assume that it was Windows. The second thing is that Updates have happened before and this has not occurred. Skype has redundancy built into it is another thing. Further, the world time zones would mean that people updated their computers (windows) at staggered intervals. So I don't think either explanation satisfies the reason behind the outage. There are still some glaring questions here. In a related note, considering computers use the most electricity during boot-up, as more devices are set to auto-update, what do you think the impact to the regional electric grid is when everyone in an area has a sudden spike in consumption? I would imagine since this is occuring typically at non-peak times it is not a big issue today, but something to think about when your kitchen appliances become more intelligent and require auto update. |
