While i would not personally use a disabled parking space, i have to say that a lot of problem is caused by authorities issuing disabled parking permits to those who clearly can manage without. Don't believe me, go sit in a supermarket car park for a few hours and watch the disabled spaces. The one thing you will not often see is the person in the wheelchair. Sad but true.... To be fair there are many illnesses or disabilities that aren't visible to others. Just because someone doesn't appear to have a disability, he or she might very well require use of that space. I get angry when I see a car parked there that does not have a permit. Selfish! To be fair there are many illnesses or disabilities that aren't visible to othersAgreed, i did not mean to imply that "all" were fit and able. There may be some differences between USA and here as to what constitutes a disability which requires a disabled parking permit. At least in the state I live in "authorities" aren't the ones who determine who qualifies for a disability parking permit and who doesn't. That's left up to doctors who, essentially, prescribe a permit for patients they believe genuinely need one. The doctor's determination is then taken to the Department of Vehicles where either the hang-tag or permanent plate is obtained. Good! Indicates that losing your sense of humour doesn't follow losing you ability to be able bodied. Not that I'm interested in testing out my theory, thank you very much. |
