Buffy the Vampire fans were going to a screening of a musical episode of a show, dressed as their favorite character, as people did for the Rocky Horror Show picture show. Lawyers decided this was going beyond the licensing agreement. Apparently the people had been able to enjoy themselves without spending much money. Fox has since registered the idea, and included singalong clauses in all contracts- just in case
