A 1978 15¢ stamp is 49¢ at its 2007 equivalent. Between 1863 and 1885, it was $1.84 2007 dollars. The 1971 8¢ stamp, at 2007 prices is...41¢, just like now. The 20th century high point was 56¢ (face value 3¢) from 1917 to 1919, an increase used to help finance WWI. The 1919 decrease from 3¢ to 2¢ was the last time the face value of a stamp went down, and an all-time low 2007 value of 26¢.
