Harden does acknowledge that early adolescent sexuality is linked to early pregnancy and disease, but these risks are not inevitable. She notes that in other Western countries, such as Australia, there are similar rates and patterns of teen sexual activity as in the United States, but drastically lower rates of teen pregnancy. She attributes this to a poor level of sexual health knowledge in the United States

righthand
The study reports that teens who engage in sex are more likely to develop stronger relationships in adulthood and that early sex does not lead to delinquent behaviour.
Could this be ore got to do with the personality of the teens? Would they be the confident ones who are first to try everything be it drugs, sex, cigarettes, whatever? Just asking.

Whether or not they are taught about safety, responsibility, risk, and a whole lot more, kids are going to do what they want to do. The puritanical adults stick their collective heads up their asses and say "Don't do it!" in an effort to satisfy their own stupidity and fear. Kids don't care, because, largely, they can't. They are surrounded by sexuality in commerce which is backed by fiscal draculas seeking to suck the cash out of teen pockets, as well as their own hormonal disney-land in their pants. As a result, they stumble forward in stupid ignorance.

If they were taught about their sexuality, if we honored them by acknowledging that while they are not done growing they are precious and...

This is a prevalent issue for me as I have a soon to be 17 year old daughter. Both her mother and I have had talks with her about dating, sex, expectations and realities. She says she isn't interested in sex at this time, but reality says place her in control with appropriate birth control now, so she isn't left wondering when she suddenly feels ready emotionally, but isn't prepared with the right level of protection.

I am amazed how many teens meet people off line and have no idea who they are meeting. There are ways of checking people out they just never think about it!

Thanks guys for all the comments, glad so many of you found this clip interesting. Though the content of the article wasn't that much of a suprise to me, It was a great validation for what I personally believe.

And Bear, I agree, spot on. Kids these days are unindated with sexuality. Look at the majority of videos on MTV/Much usic. Look at TV Shows aimed at kids (Falcon Beach, Whistler (sorry, lots of Canadian content here.. but I know there are just as bad, shows in teh states like The OC), Degrassi (which imo handles it better than most... though it seems to be getting a bit worse)). All these shows enforce the idea ...
