The concept behind historic preservation is foolish, it assumes that there is infinite space for future generations.
What is this guy talking about?? One word: Europe... Almost all of the cities there have been able to preserve their historic buildings while adding new. Has he been to the East Coast? Look at our great cities Boston, NYC or Washington DC. Cities that are constantly growing but still are able to hold onto their historic resources. In addition, historic preservation is another tool of smart growth: where we have to think before we build how we are going to impact our community. You are not just preserving a building or a landmark but preserving the community: it's sense of place.
