The problem is that all schools do is train rather than teaching any real critical thinking skills. Of course, the kind of training needed for an information-based economy leads to an interesting crossroads for this system. In the Industrial Age, schools only had to teach children to sit still and do mind-numbingly repetitive tasks all day. Now, however, competing in the "new economy" means you need some higher-level brain functions, which might eventually be turned to subject matter people in power might not like. |
