Eaglewings says: Once again we see how the government only makes matters worse. By passing this stupid law and then allowing certain exceptions they are only opening the door to more lawsuits and challenges to this stupid law. You can not legislate good behavior all you do is punish those who do know how to act rightly and making their lives even worse. If smoking is so bad BAN THE MANUFACTURE AND SALE OF IT. But if it is legal to buy then it has to be legal to possess and use. Folks are free to harm themselves all they want... It's the fact that cigarettes also harm others, particularly people that work in smoky environments all the time, that's the problem. If you're livelihood depends on waiting tables in a night club, that shouldn't sentence you to throat cancer 50 years down the line. Agreed, but it should be up to the establishment if they wish to bar smoking from their establishments. My employer has a smoke free policy which means no one is permitted to smoke in the building at any time. Of course we do not have to deal with patrons that come in wanting to smoke. I for one would not work in such an environment neither would I subject myself to the dangers of mining for coal or a few other occupations that I would find to be hazardous to my well being. Now I am not telling you to quit your job but at the same time cigarettes are legal and therefor the possession and use of such cancer sticks is legal. It should not require government to step in to regulate its use. Besi... I for one would not work in such an environment neither would I subject myself to the dangers of mining for coal or a few other occupations that I would find to be hazardous to my well being. Some people have very little choice... Like say my sister in law (well, sister in common-law), she's a mother of two, with a very low income, she takes whatever jobs she can get. That often means working at a diner, restaurant, etc. Who protects her rights if it is up to the restaurateur? We've had both successes and failures here in Nova Scotia.. smoking is banned in most public places, such as restaurants, etc, except if there is a separately ventilated room that takes up less then ... Cat it sounds like this folks in Pittsburgh copied the law you have over there across the pond. They too are trying to inforce a 15 foot entrance way ban and such like and again I say this is totally looney tunes. I for one never frequent a place where I have to be subjected to cigerette smoke while I attempt to eat. I do not care if it is the classiest place in town I will not eat there. Most place around here are smoke free and they all seem to be doing a fine business. I think smokers should exercise some common courtesy and not light up where others who are not smoking might be offended but lets face it IT IT THEIR RIGHT so they say. I would love to be able to go up to one of these dine... |
