Very thought provocating. "Final Cut", a 2004 movie with Robin Williams played drama along these lines.

Many sci-fi authors play with this idea - so many in fact that it's considered a crucial part of "the singularity", a point at which humanity changes so fundamentally that we are unable to predict or even conjecture what it will be like afterwards.
