laceym says: As long as those who are believers will acknowledge that their allegiance gives them no privilege, no direct line to the absolute truth, no advantage in moral insight Indeed! As I see it, the one major fear that theist have, and particularly Christians in the US, is losing their privileged status. They use the fiction of persecution in an attempt to bolster their cause. The blog poster, VJack, wrote, "As long as believers insist that their faith counts as some sort of special knowledge, that they are the only ones capable of being moral, and that they alone have "the truth," it is difficult to imagine meaningful dialogue. Sadly, I am doubtful that believers will do this." I believe in God and I think I pull off what he's talking about. I think I do. Do I Thor? Or does my belief in God blind me? I'm perfectly happy with others believing whatever conclusion they've come to, I think it's a highly personal thing and perhaps the true answer isn't the same for everyone. I'm also extremely willing to listen to and consider atheistic ideas. Or any other ideas for ... huh? So does that mean I AM an asshat or I'm not? It looks like the the answer to "Can atheists and believers have a productive conversation?" is NO. ROFL! It helps when Thor dumbs it down for me At least he doesn't believe in sky fairies. Doh! Shame on me. That was rude. He? Who he? The only problem is atheists don't have many holidays - - LOL That's it.. I'm petitioning the government for national "God does not exist" day... and only atheists can take it off!! YAY! What are my changes of getting it accepted? (in Canada... in the states I might be hung for being anti-american) We have Christmas with Santa, trees, and lights... Easter with bunnies, chocolate, and eggs. St. Patrick's Day with green beer. Valentine's day with chocolate and sex And let's not forget Mardi Gras with...better not go into that Party !!! There isn't any chance of a "productive" conversation with "believers". Productive conversation (logos) works with thesis, antithesis and synthesis. The believers have only the thesis and that thesis can not be changed since it came straight from "God". |
