We need to start producing domestic oil fields and screw the "greenies" Most of the peak oil shills have been screaming the peak oil game for over 50 years now. There was another huge offshore discovery about 4 years ago about 90 miles from Florida near Cuba as well. Foreign compnaies jumped all over it but the U.S. sat idly by due to environmental restrictions. Greenies? Screw? Screaming? The political, economic and financial discourses concerned with peak oil do not seem to me to be marked by hysterical and emotive language. The peak oil thesis is based upon demand rather than supply, and the discussion of this is more boring than vituperative. That's true of most informed and intelligent interpretation of complex data. After the CEO of Total (the French oil major) last week, two more CEOs of an oil major came out this Thursday to give stark warnings that mean that peak oil is happening right now. In addition, the chief economist of the International Energy Agency (the IEA), one of the main cheerleaders of the "there's more than enough oil" camp until now, is giving an extraordinarily pessimistic interview in the Financial Times, following the recent publication of their latest World Energy Outlook. |
