Reminds me of Katrina, when Bush and McCain ate birthday cake beside Air Force One in Arizona while the Gulf Coast drowned.

Completely unfair. Masbury, this is just a horrible statement to intimate that the President and Senator John McCain somehow didn't care about the Katrina folks. Your Bush derrangement sydrome is poppin up.

The President's initial response was to fly to the Gulf area but it was determined that the headaches it would cause sending Air Force One would be too intrusive. The other option was to just fly back to Washington and get to work. They decided to fly the President over the area so that he could see first hand the destruction.

What I think you might find interesting is the response of the people in Iowa as compared to those of New Orleans. NO bitchin' and moaning. No complaini...

a) the photo-op of the day, when Bush was flying around after Katrina, was of him and McCain sharing birthday cake on the tarmac in Arizona beside Air Force One. That the feds response to Katrina was seriously flawed, even the President has admitted.

b) I am an Iowan. I have lived almost all my life in SE Iowa. I was in Iowa City on Friday, via one of the few routes into town. I live just half an hour away. People in my church on Sunday had been sandbagging in Columbus Junction and Iowa City, and we will be involved with further flood relief.

c) Every resident with loss has been urged to apply to FEMA. FEMA reps are on hand. This is our government, this is one of its functions, and all of ...

FEMA did the best they could at the time. But why should we expect any government agency. out side of the DOD to be able to respond efficiently. I am pryaing for you and everyone in Iowa by the way.

FEMA and the government responded in amazing fashion in Katrina once they got it together.. Perhaps not the way we expected, but who's fault is that? The people in IOWA know better than to expect anyone but themselves and their neighbors to help them out.

I'm grateful for your prayers, thanks.

Iowans will need FEMA very badly. As you may know, homeowners insurance does not include flood protection, and since this flood exceeded the 500 year flood plain, many will have lost everything and be uninsured.

In Iowa, friends and neighbors lived just up the hill, where the flood didn't reach. In Katrina, that was simply not the case. Friends and neighbors were wiped out, too.
