Compare the dates. This was a story from February. These people knew that a village had been destroyed 8 months ago. Why was it not news then but it is news now?

They sat on a story because massacring a village isn't important enough to break the news cycle, but now that Burma is a hot topic, they suddenly remember it!

They are playing for ratings with people's lives. There is nothing sacred when it comes to the commercialism in the news.

For real news from a serious Burma watcher and researcher check out clips by Marszal. He has great on the ground information and stuff from dissident bloggers.

Mainstream news media offer infotainment, the agenda and content being somewhat determined by consumers, though the totality is overdetermined. Mainstream media are commercial, they reflect back to people what they want to hear. They both reproduce and reinforce ideology. (Of course, the myth of impartiality and 'reflecting reality' is one which is believed by most consumers)

I think while we're all glad they finally came through and showed the shots - and Karen as well are - we all do feel a bit of frustration that it would only come out now - a general word of encouragement - get on Google earth and look around you'll be surprised what you can see - meth amphetamine plants in the Shan State Opium cultivation sites, Burmese military planes - all kinds of good stuff!
