egoldstein says: This study really amazes me. It seems to suggest that blind people are able to react to something that is shown to them even though they don't 'see' it. I suggest reading the entire article to try to understand - though i must admit i still don't really get it. People who work with alternative methods of healing do this all the time- they aren't always good with words. It has long been known that our physical senses filter out much more than they "allow in". Yet, our subtle senses let in much more. It is common for blind people to "feel/sense more deeply" than "seeing-eyed people" (this could probably apply to most people that don't fit snuggly into the consensus box called "reality"). The "norm" is usually "a box" we slot into, to fit into "a box" of communal agreements, which rarely fulfill "our real potentials, gifts, talents". Stepping out of that box is our "real goal" because that is where our freedom IS. I just had another "flash" - two books you might enjoy. The first "The Voice of Knowledge" by Don Miguel Ruiz. A doctor who grew up in a shamanistic family, denied their ways to work in mainstream medicine and then returned to work with his shamanistic wisdom. What is brilliant about this book is that it explains (at least for me) the ways we take on "a world view" that for the most part is less than beneficial for us and our world. The second is a sci-fi book which is a bit dated, yet, it's relevance to our current world is still valuable. It is a book that asks some deeply ethical questions. It is by Orson-Scott Card and is called "Xenocide". Whoa!!! You mean everyone can't do this?? |
