This is one of (if not the) best paragraphs about the importance of tagging that i've read. Check out the rest of the post by clicking the source link. It's an excellent post on the overall importance of "making sense out of it all."

Agreed, very clear the way it is described.

I think one more leading technology, or vehicle for communication is RSS feeds, your ability to subscribe easily to any source of information, and have its titles delivered to you.

I liked the the link you sent, alI I had to do is add the feed to my home page, and I will have it updated whenever I start FireFox.

I also still lack the ability to store my accumulated data, easily tagged and shared, but some nice tools are starting, and the concept is there, tagging is much more natural than categories, more human like thinking.

Eric,
Thanks for Clipping my meta-tagging comments and for making them public. I am eager to try out ClipMarks. My hope is to share the stuff that I find interesting and useful in my research with others who share a common passion and interest for the topic of customer-led innovation and customer co-design of businesses.

I think you should be our spokeswoman

Offering a forum for people to 'share stuff that we find interesting and useful with others who share a common passion and interest for a topic' is the purpose of this site (you say it a heck of a lot better than i do).

We hope that clipmarks.com proves to be a place for people to connect with information, sources and people about any topic that interestes them.

Customer co-design is such a powerful concept. In building a tool that allows people to organize all the information they find on the web it is critical to be passionate about understanding how, when where and why users perform any and all actions.

The innovation cycle thus becomes:
1. always offer your best tools to your community of users
2. open your eyes and ears as wide as possible to accept both compliments and, more importantly, recommendations
3. integrate the community's recommendations into ongoing product design
4. develop your product quickly and efficiently to meet the goals and desires of the community

All this comes about by being open and honest with your community of user...

Welcome Patty; interesting article & timely observations!

Oh Adam, you sure talk purrdy sometimes; insightful comments!

On tagging:
What would really knock my socks off is auto-tagging; something that would automatically generate highly relevant tags as I create content, with the option to manually edit tags if desired. I just hate having to engage in the extra step of declaring tags. Ideally, the app/plugin would also have retro-tagging built-in.

Geekette, lazy girls unite! I'm with you on the auto-tagging thing. Tagging is important, but it's secondary to clipping. I actually cancelled a whole clip the other day when I got to the tagging part and didn't know what to tag it (I know, extreme, but I'm a little neurotic and VERY indecisive).

Great comment, Adam.

jrose, I couldn't agree more than the connection is the most important part. Without that, all you're doing is gathering information into your own brain and letting it stagnate while you try to find a suitable place in conversation for it...or letting it disappear because you didn't use it. It's just like in school, when you do exercises for the same things over and over-...

Hey Guys, auto tagging is something I am really interested in, too. YCC and I have clipped a lot of informations about that. There is a way to build tagclouds automaticly, without tagging items by yourself. I think that there will be a lot of innovations in the next 2 years. One thing where we have just started to realize its possibilities is Microformats. With MF maybe we will be able to build internetwide tagclouds or your personal tagcloud which contains all tags and tagged articels by you, no matter where you tagged them.

That would be great..can't see what would keep it from happening.

yeah, eric. And I cant wait to see it happening All these things are so simple but so ingeniously. I still have to laugh about myself and RSS. I know it for so long but I realized its power and potentials just one and a half year ago...
