I have a Pit Bull who is WITHOUT question the most loving and smartest dog I have had the pleasure of sharing my life with and I have shared my life with quite a few dogs! She LOVES kids! LOVE LOVE LOVE and more LOVE! It's the MORONIC IDIOTS who train them to be bad that is the problem.

The only issue i have with Pit Bulls is that if (and i know it's a huge if) they turn on your or someone else, you're totally screwed. So, unlike other dogs that may not be as friendly or loving, they have the potential to hurt you terribly or even kill you on the very odd chance they get out of line.

I totally agree with you that a lot of this is caused by irresponsible owners who don't know how or care how to train their dogs.

Well then that means we should also ban Shar Pais, German Shepherds, Newfoundlands, Dobermans, most branches of the Lab family (all have powerful jaws), St. Bernards, Mastiffs, you get the idea.

Now... what about people? Do we have someone quarantined because he is muscular and German? How about black men over 6'3"? Muslims? Christians who don't believe in abortion?

Instead... how about making breeding or training fighting dogs a felony? How about rather than ban the entire breed, make owners of suspect lines take their dog to be temperament tested? Any Pit Bull must be wearing a special license that has to be renewed every couple of years.

ANYTHING is better than banning an entire breed where 99% of them are love muffins!

I think the training of attack dogs got really overdone due to the movie stereotypes. Movies and TV shows usually have these types of dogs as vicious and then the wackos think "I gots to have me one of those" They have the dogs trained or abuse them to the point of meanness and then they fail to contain them. Its not entirely all the dog's fault- They are carnivores. They are territorial and they are aggressive. It all boils down to the responsibility of the owner.
If a pup were released into the wild it would be aggressive on its own. It would try to kill you. You must teach it Love and gentleness. Even then You better control it or a stranger will get hurt.

I gotta be honest I think it's a little weird to care so much about animals... I mean to the point where ones identity is wrapped up and tied to any animal is odd to me... I have had lots of pets good ones to, but when they died I was a little bummed, but nowhere near that of the loss of people...Right. It just seems like a lot of people/ americans love animals I guess I'm just not that insecure. I agree with the responsability of the owner point also, otherwise where does it stop?
