These people are missing one of the greatest events in one's life, to procreate. It is one of the few miracles we can witness and is a revelation of characteristics we did not know we possessed. It also usually leads to a sad old age ending in life without the love and support of your children.

Not everyone is cut out to be a parent. If they were, there would be zero child abuse. I applaud the ones who are wise enough to NOT procreate when they know it's not in their nature.

I've chosen to not have children and it's the BEST decision I've ever made. I thank my lucky stars, I never gave in the pressure to "produce" grandkids. Ugh. When people ask me why I don't have kids, I reply:

"Oh, I used to, but the cats were allergic to them, so I had to give them away."

This clip reminds me of that joke that goes; "There are only two ways to fly. First class, or with kids." Ain't it the truth. .

Brilliant clip, beanz.

I love being a parent, and wouldn't give it up for anything. However, each to their own. Parents and those who choose to remain childfree should respect the choices of the other, period.

What I don't understand are all the personal questions some people ask when someone chooses not to have kids. It's nobody else's business!

jay8h - if you`d read the piece , you`d know that having kids makes no difference to your chances of being lonely in later life; lots of families are hateful to each other, or just don`t get on.
procreation a miracle ? so we should be worshiping rabbits then, as they breed so well ?

I'm not thrilled with some of the snarkly personal comments by childfree people made to me about choosing to have children. It's not THEIR business either.

Bottom line, each person made a decision based on what is best for them. Live and let live.

beanz, I can see you have never had children. When you are sitting alone in your old age in a nursing home and have no children that care about you, it will be too late to have regrets.

I know a lot of folks who have kids and still sit lonely in a nursing home. Once a week or month visits don't change that.

Besides, people don't HAVE to have kids. If you want to fine, but considering all the bad parents out there, I would hope people would put more thought about having them and if they don't feel they want to, then more power to them.

jay8h, my FIL had 5 children. He alienated them all, and had only one ever visit in the nursing home, out of obligation because they had power of attorney.

Having children is no guarantee that you won't be alone, because it is the quality of parenting that determines that. Childfree people may still have plenty of nieces/nephews, etc that will make their old age one in which they are loved and cared for.

Who said having children is a guarantee to happiness? Nothing is for sure, but the odds are better they will love you and fill your life with joy than to have none.

jay8H - really pretty mindless and selfish, I would have thought, to have kids to ensure your own comfort ?
I do actually have 2 kids, 1 biological and 1 not biological.
I would rather chew my own leg off than have anyone visit me in a nursing home. I`m organising a medical will currently - no treatment if I have an event or lose my marbles.
Hopefully euthanasia will be available here soon - there`s lots of public support.Civilisation at last

beanz, I am surprised you have not considered euthanasia for yourself now with that sour of an attitude towards life and children.

jeez, I am talking about euthanasia for myself, who else would it be for ?
I like kids, always have - but we can`t just keep pretending we`re simple animals and breeding is the be all and end all. The planet can`t survive our continual increasing and consuming. plus it`s a waste of brain power
