alanocu says: "The National Woman Suffrage Association was formed by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton 139 years ago today. To mark the anniversary, Chris Connolly is here to discuss the role of the bicycle in the women’s movement." Highly recommended article at the source...clipped only a very small portion of the entire article: http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/14985 I didn't mean to place the photo of the woman running the Triathlon after the text "Clearly, women needed to change their underwear." I don't know how it ended up that way.... wow, i finally understand why womens cycles have the lower bar... maybe i'm being dense here but i never had a clue and always wondered why they had the low bar and men didn't when it would seem that it should be the other way around. duh, it's the dresses! Great find Alan. Thanks I'm reminded of thet great song by Queen: I Want To Ride My Bicycle...! Cool clip Good clip! Isn't the social history of technology fascinating? I'm a woman and a bicycle fan. Nice to see how much I have in common with some of my foremothers. I am well known for bicycle riding It has got to the point where I feel kinda confined being on the bus or in a car, as traffic in Dublin is slowwwww....oh, and kinda dangerous. Nice to know I am in good company I Want To Ride My Bicycle... song comes on my mind too I was never good at riding a bike. When I was a little girl I remember one summer covered in road rash literally head to toe. (esp. my forehead). Me, high speeds, and gravel roads didn't get along. Great article! I think its really good that women ride their bicycles. I used to race bicycles a few years back and had the opportunity to ride and train with some of the lady racers - I can tell you that some of them gave me a run for my money! And because of the modern day (kniks) shorts that riders wear while riding and racing, no underwear is required with these shorts, as it provides better blood circulation and is not constricting. These shorts also have an internal shammy or sweat cloth in them for comfort while sitting on the bike seat for long durations. So they certainly have limited the underwear over the years! |
