Eaglewings says:
Once again a report shows why we can not legislate proper behavior. I personally think that an XXX domain would be a great way for all pornographers to have their own home on the web place to gather. But like other legislation of this nature it would be worthless to attempt if they are going to allow the porn industry to continue to cloak itself in the .com world to appear legitimate. Those who wish to seek out this type of "entertainment" will find it no matter where it resides in the community. Therefore creating a virtual "Red Light District" would probably work as well as prohibition did.

This one certainly belongs in the LOONY BIN.

Eaglewings, may I suggest that you either upgrade to FF2.0, or install TinySpell.

I've suggested TinySpell before, but you seem resistant, why, I can't figure. Your atrocious spelling really distracts from your commonsense comments. Think about it.

atrocious might be a bit of an exaggeration. But pardon me for typos and otherwise misspelling and thanks for the kudos for having at least some common sense.

I think an .xxx extension would be great for porn sites, but not if they get to keep the .com ones as well. Then it just seems useless.

It sounds like a good idea at first, but to implement it would be a nightmare. If they don't all conform, the domain would be useless. If they are all forced to conform, who would foot the bill? And who would be in charge of determining what is and isn't porn?

To me it is just a can of worms that isn't worth opening.

I think the porn sites can foot the bill. It's not like they are hurting for money, I'm sure.

I think that a business who prides itself in its product would relish the thought of having a TOP LEVEL domain just for their own. It makes sense. .gov for government .biz for business .name for name .org for non profits .info for information .net for networks why not .porn for porn? After all if PORN is such a noble pursuit well then make it legitimate. Take it to the next level. Build your houses on porn street. We have a wall street and redmond is the place for microsoft Nashville the home of country and Orleans the home of jazz why not .porn the home of porn?

Or could it be that the porn industry would rather ride on the backs of legitimatcy and cloak themselves in decency by hiding the...

What a ridiculous idea. I'm with Eagle and sooners on this one, believe it or not.

I mean, while we're at it, I have another brilliant idea. Why don't we also designate a TLD called ".spam" - then we could say that if you are a spammer, you have to use this domain and send all your mail from there. Then if we don't want to get spam, we just set our email programs to ignore mail from xxx@yyy.spam. Simple, right?

It's about the same thing, isn't it?

The only downside to creating the XXX domain, Will be deciding what is Pornographic enough to have to be placed there. And what is not.
