Certainly a defining moment in world history. It's interesting that present day fundamentalists such as Falwell are still using the same arguments that their 14th century counterparts employed. You'd think that after 600+ years they'd have learned something.

It's not profitable. No believers = no money; ignorance + fear = money.

I'm afraid you're exactly right. And not only money but power and control. We've seen this played out time and time again in the present administration for political ends. I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe, fuller disclosure enabled by modern communication methods can have some impact in changing this dynamic.

And that brings up the question of where they obtained the, uh, supplies? Was this a cottage industry that developed? On second thought, I'd rather be left in the dark on that!

Good decision. I would hesitate to use my own, much less someone else's.

the disease was God’s punishment for immorality
You'd think God would be busy with more important things than your average Joe committing adultery or homosexuality... like tribes committing genocide or people starting wars by lying to the country they are leading. But what do I know?

Oh gwendolyn, look around. I honestly think god is more interested if the Valley High Badgers will triumph over the Southside Mudpuppies in the next big playoff game. He does have an intense interest in sports. And smiting if there isn't a good game on. And be careful there, your innuendo against our Chief Cheerleader for God (when it'll buy votes) didn't go unnoticed.

@AtlLiberal

Found some "de-motivational" posters on this site that crack me up. (I would clip it, but I'm at work and there's a firewall.)

My favorite is the three guys standing next to the painting of the crucified Jesus.

There's another one with a jumping lamb that is captioned "Gravity. Just a theory." Just so happens, a couple of days later, I get this chain email talking about how great Jesus is and this is an actual quote from the email:
"Who is Jesus? HE IS JESUS
WHO IS HE?
.....
IN PHYSICS, HE DISPROVED THE LAW OF GRAVITY WHEN HE ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN;

IN ECONOMICS, HE DISPROVED THE LAW OF DIMINISH...

The Bubonic Plague was caused by fleas from rats, plentifull due to poor sanitation and overcrowding. Nothing to do with ?God or ?Sin, or everything to do with them depending on your religious viewpoint. People from all walks of life and religions died horrible deaths, regardless of their guilt or innocence. Kind of like Iraq but only lasted a year or so, and most died within days of being infected. The shortage of survivors led to an improvement in conditions for workers as well as improvements in sanitation, so not a total disaster.
