About me
My personal hero is:

Colonel Robert Green Ingersoll (August 11, 1833 – July 21, 1899), a Civil War veteran, American political leader, and orator during the Golden Age of Freethought, noted for his broad range of culture and his defense of agnosticism.

Many of Ingersoll's speeches advocated freethought and humanism, ...

His liberal views of freedom of religion, slavery, woman's suffrage, and other issues of the day effectively prevented him from ever pursuing or holding political offices higher than that of state attorney general.

Illinois Republicans tried to pressure him into running for governor on the condition that he conceal his agnosticism during the campaign, which he refused on the basis that concealing information from the public was immoral.

No. It's the Bush administration's war against journalists. And what was done to Sami al-Haj can be done to any American, thanks to the Patriot Act. We need our freedoms and our dignity as Americans back from the tyranny of this administration.

The Code of Hammurabi
alanocu
by alanocu  5-4-2008    9
Hammurabi (ruled ca. 1796 BC – 1750 BC) believed that he was chosen by the gods to deliver the law to his people. The Code of Hammurabi was one of several sets of laws in the Ancient Near East. Most of these codes come from similar cultures and racial groups in a relatively small geographical area, and they have passages which resemble each other. The earlier Code of Ur-Nammu (21st century BC), the Hittite laws (ca. 1300 BC), and Mosaic Law (traditionally ca. 1400 BC under Moses), all contain statutes that bear at least passing resemblance to those in the Code of Hammurabi and other codices from the same geographic area. The complete text of Hammurabi's Code of Laws. http://eawc.evansville.edu/anthology/hammurabi.htm. Quite shocking. The photographs were taken at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Invictus has a clip on Hammurabi: http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/92611450-2366-40A4-8825-C9287250A843/

Many of the reader's comments are more interesting than the article. For instance, here's one: ALL those "scientists" who are persecuted for believing "out of the box"? You know what, where are you tests you've preformed to PROVE Intelligent design? What Experimets did you preform? What results did you find that support your hypthesis of their being a designer? huh? Where are they? .... Oh wait.. you don't have any? You just "believe" that what HASN"T been explained by science yet must be something else??? Hmm.... Sounds like your saying "Whatever hasn't be figured out (yet) MUST be God!! Or this: "Unfortunately I feel it's pretty hard to have an honest discussion on the topic of origin these days because it seems that so few people are capable of accurately representing or fairly treating the arguments of anyone who sees it differently."
