About me
My personal hero is:

Colonel Robert Green Ingersoll (August 11, 1833 – July 21, 1899), a Civil War veteran, American political leader, and orator during the Golden Age of Freethought, noted for his broad range of culture and his defense of agnosticism.

Many of Ingersoll's speeches advocated freethought and humanism, ...

His liberal views of freedom of religion, slavery, woman's suffrage, and other issues of the day effectively prevented him from ever pursuing or holding political offices higher than that of state attorney general.

Illinois Republicans tried to pressure him into running for governor on the condition that he conceal his agnosticism during the campaign, which he refused on the basis that concealing information from the public was immoral.

Catholicism, interesting ideas. I wonder what they would have done with Jesus' body parts if they could've found him. Also interesting, that Romans were told to convert to Catholicism or be beheaded. This seems to have gone full circle.

And you still believe its not a racket? Doesn't look like feeding the poor and walking in the footsteps of Jesus to me. But keep donating, they all have to take a dump somewhere. It's called fleecing the flock. It's a time honored tradition. Glad you could be on board. Thanks again for your donation. God will pay you back a 1000-fold ... after you're dead. (What a great punch line! Only a few people actually get it.)

Religion: Punishment Wins Every Time
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  7-27-2009    4
At its most basic, religion teaches a black/white view of reality. Good/bad, righteous/sinful, us/them, religious/atheist. And least we forget, heaven/hell. And make no mistake, punishment is a major component of the mix. In fact, it's sometimes difficult to keep up with all the smiting going on in their various holy books. Is it no wonder that a person who was evicted from an anger management class would be deeply influenced by the punishment aspects of religion? Yes, we must assume responsibility for our actions but in the case of religion to be punished for eternity is not only irrational but arguably sadistic and insane.

Why do Christians Insist that Hitler was an Atheist?
AcesLucky
by AcesLucky  6-23-2009    73
 4. Regarding atheism, Hitler specifically opposed it in a 1933 speech in Berlin: “We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.” prussian 5. By order of the Führer (Hitler), Nazi Germany’s soldiers (Wehrmacht) wore belt buckles inscribed “Gott mit uns” (”God is with us”). An atheist would never demand this. With just these five facts out of many others, why would they still insist that Adolf Hitler was an atheist? Only total ignorance would support such misguided statements
