POPSbeautiful simplicity He doesn’t find the need to try and make things look cool. “Whenever I try to make something “cool” it tends to just look like crap.” He lets the beauty take care of itself.<<

POPSStunning Color From The Adelaide Festival: Northern Lights "During the Festival which ran from February 29th through March 16th, an estimated 15,000 people made their way each night to see the multi-building installation light up with 70 different projections that changed every five minutes. The turnout must have been a little unexpected because the installation was extended two weeks beyond the original ending date to March 30th. Even though the installation was such a success the festival honored Earth Hour on March 29th by turning off the lights for one hour."

POPSnew therapy trend: walk-in-the-park Therapy A walk in the park takes on a new meaning..esp if you see ppl talking to each other and one taking notes (HEHE) Sigmund Freud, the grandfather of the talking cure, pioneered it when he conducted a “walking analysis” of Max Eitingon, the physician, on their regular walks around the Ringstrasse Park in Vienna Mind, the mental health charity, also agrees with the health benefits of being outdoors, stressing last year the need for “ecotherapy”, or “green” exercise. Its research indicated that 71 per cent of people suffering from depression reported a lifting of their mood after a walk through a park or the countryside, while 22 per cent felt their depression worsen after a stroll through an indoor shopping centre.

POPSEinstein's Idea Of Religion A crucial point is that Einstein stated categorically that he did not believe in a personal God, of the kind assumed by most practising religious people. Einstein detested the idea of a personal God who rewarded or punished his creatures, or exercised his will by interfering in events. He felt such an idea was intrinsically connected with human selfishness, merely 'a reflection of human frailty' So what was Einstein's religion? He called it 'cosmic religion' and it was a sense of awe at 'the nobility and marvellous order which are revealed in nature and in the world of thought.. Einstein's view of traditional religion was somewhat ambivalent. He detested any idea of indoctrination or fundamentalism, but admitted that conventional religions had a role in setting ethical standards

POPSBodyworks: art of the corpse I was lucky enough to see the exhibition in London five or so years ago. Enhancing, uplifting and beautiful. Think there is an exhibition in Manchester UK on now.

POPSPhotographs of a Generation "It's Complicated: The American Teenager"
“Whatever their identity or station in life, the young people were candid and poignant in talking about themselves, often revealing estrangement from parents or ostracism by peers, discomfort with their bodies, or worry about the future.” A diverse set of teenagers, less-common subjects, such as a country preacher, a coal miner, a 19-year-old girl in prison, a Maine lobstergirl, a Georgia transvestite, and a 16-year-old female "naturist," photographed nude at a family resort in Florida. Sometimes she was not welcome and "chased out of towns," for asking questions such as "Have you been sexually active?" The New York Public Library has purchased a complete set, along with transcripts of the interviews (not all appear in the book), with the intention eventually to mount an exhibition. POPSArtists Using the Full Spectrum "I’m excited by artists who are finding ways to adapt the rainbow spectrum in their work. The color field (or chromatic abstractionist) artists of the 50’s often painted with bold swaths of color but rarely used as many together as the featured artists of this article. In the 60’s, psychedelic art used colors and patterns together too. The modern artists I’ll cover in this post use color in an undiluted, anything but soft array of graphic lines and shapes resulting in work that is both vivid and alluring. Their work circumvents the boundaries their predecessors put in place to arrive at a new and bold take on prior styles."

POPSAmur leopard cub I wonder if people will be able to see them 30 years from now; or whether future people will have to wonder about these beautiful animals, the way we wonder about the Thylacine.

POPSQuotes from "Cyrano de Bergerac" "Cyrano: There. There is our soul. The same reed, the same fingers which have piped us into combat, call us softly home, in our thoughts. This is no longer the shrill call to attack, it is every shepherd who ever inhabited our land, whispering his sheep to fold. Listen. It is your hillside, your earth, your forest - your younger brother, suntanned under his red woolen cap. It is the green solitude of nights you spent beside the Sordogne. Listen my countrymen. It is our country calling." "My life's work has been to prompt others and be forgotten. Remember that night when Christian came to your balcony? That moment sums up my life. While I was below in the shadows, others climbed up to kiss the sweet rose." "I made a mess of everything, even my death."

POPS70-year-old Color Photos "color photos make the past seem more real" is what one person commented. On the site are the titles and years taken for all these photos. Some are every day event photos, and some are almost haunting in the subject matter. The one with the man inside the airplane window for example. Another person commented there is another website where there are Civil War through about the 1950's era photos. www.shorpy.com
