POPSDown Under Bigotry At first I thought this must be a parody piece but then I read that it was written by the vice-chancellor of the Australian Catholic University. A simple substitution of just about any minority in the place of atheists reveals the blatant prejudice and bigotry shown by this fine Christian.

POPSWatch out! Goblin Gummy Bears!!! The sheer absurdity of this story made me laugh out loud. Later, after sober reflection, I developed a sincere feeling of pity for this woman who is apparently in need of counseling.
2
POPSMore Christian Love Yeah, this will change people's minds. Christian's spewing hate and everlasting suffering. It reminds me once again what turns most people off to this cult.
3
POPSAnother Shill Makes a Fool of Himself Typical of the drivel from Faux News, here's a snippet showing that even the most rudimentary investigation shows them to be full of bull. But then that doesn't seem to affect the mewling zoombies that follow these jerks.

POPSChristian Angst Notable quotes: "As a Christian I would not have liked it if they had used verses from the Quran, and if I had known about it, I probably would not have approved of them doing so," Ransom said. "The issue for us is about freedom of expression of Christianity." "But if the girls had decided to use something from the Quran, I feel in our community they would've received negative feedback." It seems pretty clear what is bothering these people. The writer of the article goes on: "Therein lies the bigger question -- is it freedom of religion for the protestors in Fort Oglethorpe or freedom of their religion? If it's just their religion, how is that constitutional?" He poses a good question. It's obvious that the citizens of N. Georgia are not worried about anyone but themselves and their particular religious sect. The N. Georgia hills are indeed beautiful. The people, not so much.

POPSAlabama - Vibrator Free Zone The absurdity of this law actually made me laugh. It is the natural consequence when religion is allowed into the legislative process.
8
POPSNo More Gridiron Warriors for Christ The administration at this school did the right thing. But if it wasn't for someone speaking out their arrogant practice of public show-boating of their religion would have continued.

POPSAgain, with the persecution? Once again we're presented a picture of people believing that their overwhelming majority faith is somehow being persecuted. In fact, what the whining is all about is the erosion of Christian privilege above all other faiths or non-belief. These sheep simply don't grasp the concept of a secular government actually being a benefit to their belief system. Instead they view it as an attack against their religion. Naturally, these attitudes are being advanced by a media subset that is reaping an enormous financial gain by manipulating these rubes with false claims of losing their freedoms and being persecuted by a non-existent, frightening subculture bent on destroying their faith. There's a fool born every minute.

POPSHyper-Patriotism in "Christian America" I have pride in this country. I also see its flaws and make an effort to change them. We live in a global society and holding the belief that we're somehow exceptional clouds reality to such an extent that correct decisions become increasingly difficult to adopt.

POPSWhat? Paying for Prayer Only in America. I'd like to be subsidized for the altar to Zeus I'm building in my backyard. I'll be big enough to ward off the flu for my entire subdivision. It's true. America is getting stupider and stupider.
8
POPSWomen and Religion Most religious women probably view the idea that major religious sects place women in a submissive role with diminished rights as coming from people who simply don't understand or who have not been "shown the way". Rubbish.
3
POPSSubstance or Teenage Angst? If the allegations are true it would be criminal to disregard them. Yet, the more I follow this story the more I lean to the idea that this is a case of a teenage girl who is confused and has taken steps that make it difficult for her to retract. The most disturbing news to come out of the whole drama is the inclusion of the lawyer who was elemental in the political debauchery surrounding the Terri Schiavo case. The conservatives in Florida seem to have a natural talent of stepping in a pile of dog poo and then flinging it at anyone close by. Considering the underlying mistrust of Muslims that brews among conservatives this incident has the earmarks of being capable of evolving into a major political slime-fest.

POPSOur Natural Place in the World This is just the beginning of a 3 part essay that, for me, embodied the form of spirituality I regularly experience in my life. It's always a revelation when you see something coming from another mind that has so many points of commonality with your own thinking. Part 3 held the most significance for me.
5
POPSMadonna Angers Church for Being Herself Aw. She's been disrespectful towards the Church. A careful reading of the Church's quotes indicate that they'd be fine with the concert if she restricted her songs to Christian hymns and her "stage scenarios" to kneeling in prayer. I'll wager that the tour promoters couldn't be happier, as the concert in Sophia is all but sold out, encouraged no doubt, by the condemnation of the Church.

POPSMore Theocratic Lunacy For all you American Christians that cling to your notion of a Christian Nation, perhaps you should look to other countries that actually have a theocracy. Doesn't look as appealing as you thought, does it?
7
POPS'Tis the Season for Hate Fueled by ignorant politicians that see only to the next election and the gullibility of the undereducated in this country, hate is become the currency of the nation.
7
POPSWhat happened to the Constitution? Remember the little part in the Constitution about no religious test for public office. It seems like Falling must have been praying when that was taught in school. Pathetic.
8
POPSChristian Nation? Perhaps the Right Wingers who trumpet the canard that this is a Christian Nation should take a second and reflect on what it might be like to live in a theocracy. Yeah, like that will ever happen!
7
POPSReligion vs Religion Hmm. I wonder if this is as stated a religious thing or a 17 year old thing? I'd think it best to err on the side of safety for the girl.
6
POPSDisfunction One phrase got me thinking. "God fearing men...". Of course, being an atheist, this doesn't apply to my worldview. But to the majority I wonder if they ever spent much time thinking about it? I always thought this relationship of fear/love was rather strange. Normally, people who are presented a fearful situation react in a flight or fight manner. But neither option is open to theists if they believe their god is all-powerful and everywhere. It seems to infantilize the relationship and cast it in the light of being with an abusing parent. At the same time there is the cognitive dissonance of loving this fearful entity. Most peculiar.

POPSHired Killers Investigated From the get go I was against a huge, Praetorian Guard operating without oversight in the war of choice known as Iraq. It seems that the underlying nature of this band of mercenaries is now being exposed to the light of day.
4
POPSChurch Lives Up to Its Name This clip has much to say when taken in context of people proclaiming that all ethics and morals come from God. That and the religious right's contention that drug use is contrary to their religious teaching does smack of some measure of hypocrisy. Or maybe the Church of Universal Love & Music goes by their own set of rules?
11
POPSAmerican Talliban? The similarities are striking. The irony is off the scale. One wonders how the Right Wing could have missed this.
10
POPSLoonies in London The US Bible Belt is not the sole producer of religious lunacy. It seems demons and/or evil spirits are creeping into homosexuals in GB also. Now, where is my copy of Malleus Maleficarum?

POPSMust Be the Water Texas has always been an important harbinger when it comes to which textbooks are chosen for our public schools across the country. Publishers aren't willing to invest in printing costs (Texas buys a lot of books) without the rest of the nation going along. Now there's the possibility of a Christian Right-winger taking the reigns of the state education board in an already conservative state. Does this mean that Johnny will finally get to learn about Noah loading the dinosaurs on the ark in biology class? Stay tuned...
6
POPSHate Filled Theists This incident saddens me as it should all rational people. I know from personal acquaintances that racism and bigotry are a component of many religious people's lives. These days it is uaually hidden and brought up only under "safe" conditions. Such a public display of hatred and bigotry is truly regrettable.
4
POPSHypocricy U Is this surprising? Not really. As the article states is that what is surprising is that there were any Democrats at this "university" to begin with. What a joke!
10
POPSChristian Love? While not applicable to to all Christians this report does cast an accusatory finger to the Catholic Church and its well known predisposition of cover-ups and lies to protect their own. IMO, another damning pronouncement of religion in its many guises.
5
POPSLegless Christians Stand! It's a Miracle! I appears that a large number of Christians still advocate the use of torture. How are we to explain this seemingly contradictory stance? The answer that immediately comes to mind is that Christians have not thought this out. Does this not go counter to Christian morality? Are Christians being duped? At first glance it seems that they are.
7
POPSReligion, Politics, & Hysteria This clip seems to point out the ham fisted way governments deal with real world problems. This particular story has its counterparts in other parts of the world too. Add the obvious anti-Christian sentiment often shown by the Muslim majority in Egypt plus the obvious ill informed method used to deal with a real problem and you receive this type of obvious screw up.
9
POPSPrivilege and Oppression A thoughtful article about the notion of Christian privilege and using this to justify anti-gay prejudice. And before some get their pitchforks out, no, it doesn't apply to all Christians. But there is a sizable chunk of Christians who probably do hold these views.
