POPS Desegregation Battle in 1832, Connecticut: Canterbury Female Boarding School

Interesting NYT article on an early attempt to desegregate (1832). The problem was not public schools, which already allowed black attendance--it was a finishing school. Higher education for blacks was an idea ahead of its time. The school did close.
