POPSStudy of Microbiology: Key to Explaining Skin Disease? Dermatologists treat outbreaks of every type of skin infection with expensive creams. They always see the outbreak: red skin, pimples, etcetera--and treat it in the most superficial way. If they mention microbes at all, it is only as a vague reference to "yeast" or "bacteria." In recent years, it does seem that more of them will prescribe an antibiotic, and that helps treat the immediate problem. I wish they'd work on a cure, or at least a long-term plan for chronic outbreaks... something besides the trial-and-error of one expensive prescription cream after another!
