Embedding Flickr Photos and YouTube Videos in your Twitter Stream
CleverClogs
by CleverClogs  4-26-2007
Power Twitter is a Firefox add-on that Twitter users will like: it lets you embed Flickr Photos and YouTube Videos right into your Twitter stream. Another neat feature of PowerTwitter is that it expands TinyURL hyperlinks into their titles. I installed it today and I'm really impressed. Think of the potential: if Narendra, the 30Boxes developer who designed PowerTwitter as a side project, makes this into an open add-on that allows any web object to be embedded, then I think Twitter will indeed be a success story, instead of a temporary hype.

Atiki Feed Filter
CleverClogs
by CleverClogs  4-10-2006
With Atiki you can create a custom RSS feed by filtering other feeds in a few simple steps. You provide the URLs of the source feeds (maximum 25 feeds) and specify the keywords and other filtering criteria to finetune the results. A nice example is Tech MemeTrackers at this URL: http://www.atiki.com/feed-102, which splices articles from Tech.Memeorandum, TailRank, Topix.net, Chuquet, Megite and Blogniscient in a single feed. Existing feeds cannot be adjusted, but they can be cloned. The resulting feeds are displayed with a friendly layout (XSL) and can of course be opened with any feed aggregator of your choice. Atiki offers browser bookmarklets that are able to detect whether websites offer web feeds (so-called feed auto-discovery). Excellent newsmastering tool to create topic radars, event feeds or ego engines. Free, no registration required.

Weston Campbell's list of Digg Tools and Services
CleverClogs
by CleverClogs  4-10-2006
This comprehensive list of Digg tools received 1550+ diggs within 48 hours after it was submitted (http://www.digg.com/links/Digg_Tools_2). Note that the list is much longer than what I clipped. Weston Campbell also offers a Digg sidebar for Firefox. Compare with Pchere's list at http://www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/2005/09/complete-digg-tools-collection/. Both pages are kept current.

Indo-European and the Indo-Europeans
CleverClogs
by CleverClogs  4-10-2006
Full-text essay about the Indo-European language, the 'mother' of most European languages and of Hindi. I studied this topic for several years as an extension to my studies Classical Philology in Leyden. THE authority on the topic was Prof. Dr. Beekes. I'm very happy to find this article. This essay is part of The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 4th Ed., 2000. The dictionary too is available full-text from the Bartleby.com web site, as are many other reference books about the English language and fiction works.

Verosee launches collaborative workspaces for Skype
CleverClogs
by CleverClogs  4-8-2006
Announced by several Skype bloggers in 2005 as a break-through collaborative tool, Verosee for Skype was just publicly launched this week. It's a Java applet that allows you to set up a workspace with your team members. You can see what they are working on, whether they are available for contact, at which location and at which phone number. You can synchronize folders through a secure connection. Verosee can send out specific event alerts, for example to notify you when a team member opens a specific file or enters a specific workspace. At the moment Verosee is available for Windows and Linux. A Mac version is coming up. Verosee Premium offers file versioning, wireless collaboration, desktop sharing and remote access.

This web service is the brainchild of the same people who launched Rasasa, the RSS-to-IM/SMS/Email service that has gained so much exposure with top bloggers over the last couple of weeks. The founders are very secretive about the feature set. Let's post here what we find out about it.

HTML scraping becomes more widely available

FeedYes is a serious attempt to solve the difficult task of grabbing content from any website and turn it into an RSS feed. Other tools of interest in the same category are RSSxl, Feed43, FeedFire, MySyndicaat, FeedTier, Grouper Evolution, the HTML-to-RSS widget from Desktop Sidebar and RSS Wizard. You can also ask Carlo Zottmann of FeedPalooza to do it for you. I highly recommend his services.

While writing an article for http://www.cleverclogs.org about another service by Alex Bosworth, I thought I'd quickly check out what's new with his LiveMarks service. And there Hincliffe's article (http://web2.wsj2.com/the_best_web_20_software_of_2005.htm) was listed as #1. You may know that Clipmarks is mentioned above the fold in his article.

Web 2.0 Validator. Validation rules are submitted by users through del.icio.us (by James Britt)

Do read the full story (http://web2.0validator.com/thefullstory/) behind this 30 Second Rule project. The innovative aspect of this validator is that anyone can determine against which rules a site is validated by bookmarking the Web 2.0 Validator url on del.icio.us and providing formatted instructions in the Notes field. This is an outstanding piece of work and very well documented.
