Top 10 New World-Changing Innovations of the Year
    einbar
    by einbar  10-21-2008
2008 Breakthrough Awards /// The Innovators The early 20th century produced a breathtaking succession of innovations—the Wright Flyer, the Model T, the Panama Canal. It was a golden age of engineering. A century hence, observers may well look back at our era in much the same way: Cars are being reimagined from the wheels up. Advances in solar energy show the way past fossil fuels. And space probes explore planets that could become our future homes. These pages salute the innovators who are inventing the future. Welcome to the new golden age.

Is not a kiss the very autograph of love? ~Henry Finck 'Twas not my lips you kissed But my soul ~Judy Garland Kissing is like drinking salted water. You drink, and your thirst increases. ~Chinese Proverb A kiss seals two souls for a moment in time. ~Levende Waters Ancient lovers believed a kiss would literally unite their souls, because the spirit was said to be carried in one's breath. ~Eve Glicksman Gawd, I love this stuff!!!!!

"But there are so many people who are souls "in progress, who do not seek to engage in conflict. They are passionate people who lose it for a moment. As far as my own history. I used to get caught up in flame wars on line-- in forums, listserves, email-- more often than I would have liked. Then I set a simple rule for myself. If I write a message-- email, comment, posting-- that is angry and mean or combative-- I sit on it, preferably overnight. I don't send it out right away. One thing I learned from a researcher is that when you write down stuff that bothers you, that makes you sad, angry, miserable, just writing it down can be therapeutic. But then, if you throw it away, or delete it, that can also be a good healthy thing to do. This researcher even showed that when people did this-- wrote down stuff that made them angry-- their immune functions improved. I'd say that 98% of the time, when I write an angry missive-- and I still do ocassionally-- I end up throwing them away. I ge

What Would It Take To Prove You Wrong?
    thisnamecantbetaken
    by thisnamecantbetaken  3-14-2008    32
This is a powerful question to ask yourself when examining your beliefs. Doing so honestly, will make you a clearer and deeper thinker. It can be the difference between a person who simply revels in wishful thinking, and a heroic seeker of truth. Take a deep look into your own belief systems, and ask yourself what evidence it would take to convince you they were wrong. It's an uncomfortable exercise, but an important one.

Artists stage street scenes to lurk in Google maps
    Mohir
    by Mohir  11-13-2008
Like many first-time Street View users, Kinsley and Hewlett, then roommates, typed in their address and found their house. Kinsley and Hewlett soon found themselves discussing surveillance and virtual reality, and began considering how they might explore those issues and Street View through art. "But instead of dwelling on the darker undertones of these issues, we began to think about ways of playing with the system," Kinsley said in an e-mail interview from Iceland, where he is participating in an artist residency. The "Street With a View" project was his master of fine arts thesis project at Carnegie Mellon University. "We were interested in interjecting something staged, something fictional, into Street View and playing with - and subtly questioning - the notion of reality in something that we perceive as a factual representation of our world," said Kinsley, 26.
