But that conclusion is not nearly as important as the fact that so many of my fellow Americans give wide support to using people. I love the idea that the government has to "recover some of this money". The idea that all money belongs to the government and they might give some away but will take it all back is at the heart of our problems with big government. My money, that I worked for and sweated for and already have half taken away in taxes of one sort or another - that is my money not the governments. And any suggestion that I am keeping too much of my work efforts is not only obscene, but disingenuous. Add it up - what do you pay every year in social security taxes and medicare taxes and federal income taxes and state income taxes and local income taxes and state sales taxes and county sales taxes and local sales taxes and property taxes and to get a license plate for your car and the taxes on any property you sell and the taxes on your phone line and the taxes on your cell phone and the taxes on your water bill and taxes on your electricity bill and your garbage bill and .... The same would be true if you asked a college professor whether higher education should continue to be subsidized, or a farmer or a dairyman whether their products should be subsidized, or a manufacturer whether there should be tariffs and quotas on foreign products that compete with his product. The problem with congressmen producing favors and privileges to all interest groups is that it creates what none of us wants: massive control, numerous dictates and micromanagement of our lives.

Of course lots of that will be because people will have to start crapping in their backyards - but think of the wonderful flowers that will grow. POPSFarm Subsidies - Money for the Rich The US used to make fun of the Soviets and their "5 Year Plans". The US farm programs make the Soviets look like a bunch of hicks in the way that it lards up money for extremely selective groups and people. If we want to save some money - how about knocking off all the "price supports" - just give the farmers money for not doing anything. It would be cheaper for us all around.
