POPSThe Company He Keeps or Why Mike Huckabee Creeps Me Out More from duckplops: "Politicians seem to feel the need to ingratiate themselves with proponents of this aberrant if not insane behavior and Mike Huckabee appears to be tied at the hip with Gothard, going back all through his governorship of Arkansas. The two disciplines, pun intended, politics and religion have found common cause in our slide down fascism's slippery slope. If Huckabee gets anywhere near the white house one wonders if we'd have little prayer room treatments of our own sometime in the future." It's not just Huckabee, either...the other Republican presidential candidates creep me out, too (so do some of the Dems).

POPSBush Snubs War Widow This is disgraceful, but it does not surprise me. It just continues to show me how "unChristian" this "compassionate conservative" president truly is. Very few things in this world bind us all together. Death binds us all as we will all eventually see the grave, regardless of religion. If we cannot show compassion for each other, particularly when you (as president) are personally responsible for the orders that sent a man to war and thus, to his death, then we are no better than those we might consider our enemy. This soldier gave his life for Bush's war and thus his wife has sacrificed her husband to support George Bush...the least he could do is express his sincere condolences to this woman, regardless of whether he supports her religious beliefs or not.

POPSThe Epitome of Brotherly Love? We all can try harder to get along with people we strongly disagree with. I find this necessary, being a business owner. I have to deal with people I can't stand, all the time. But, I do my best to put my differences I have with people behind me so that I can offer them what they need, in friendship, without compromising what I'm about to please them. It is always easier to hate than it is to show compassion. We don't have to agree with everyone to be their friend. Both these men with very divergent opinions and businesses/public personas were able to put all that crap aside to communicate with each other. What more can we do to get along with our fellow man? I'm an atheist, but I still find very little place in my life to be angry at everyone who strongly disagrees with me. Life is too short to be a hater.

POPSMagical Thinking or Positive Thinking?
Another reason why I don't care who endorses a product (or idea). Just because millions of Americans have fallen for one idea or another and because some big name celebrity is on the bandwagon, does NOT mean it's a good idea (even if you would otherwise support the celebrity aka "are a big fan"). (Likewise, just because you hate an organization or a certain celebrity does not mean that their ideas don't have merit.) The key to life (YMMV): THINK FOR YOUR DAMN SELF! Believers and non-believers alike were given a brain by their creator and according to most religions were also given FREE WILL. This apparently was not for nothing. Just like women were given breasts for feeding, all humans were given brains for thinking. $HIT HAPPENS! It's the thinking human being who knows how to dig out of the $hit and find a pony (yeah, even if it's crippled...it's better than letting someone else do the digging for you and thus taking all the credit)! There is NO SECRET! Just live!
