POPSSciFi Opera I'd go see it for free out of curiosity, but I can't imagine paying for it.

POPSNew-Fangled Music Label Brought to my attention by http://twitter.com/wilw, this is a very cool idea. I plan to support it. Two words for RIAA - suck it.

POPSMouse Art No, not art done by mice, like that painting elephant, but art you control with your computer mouse. It's pretty slick. Check it out, but only if your a Firefox user.
2
POPSAppropriate Consequences I am not a Hillary supporter, but I also don't support racially divisive comments and swearing from the pulpit. Not a big fan of any political speech from the pulpit, for that matter.

POPSSpending Redefined Is it just me, or does that way of looking at things just seem wrong? Giving "tax breaks" isn't spending. If I take a pay cut, I'm not "spending" my money back to my employer, am I? In negotiations with a a struggling company, the union rep doesn't come back to the employees and say, "In order to keep your jobs at all, you have to spend 3% of your paycheck back to the company." She says, "In order to keep your jobs at all, you're going to have to take a 3% pay cut. If I take a pay cut, I change my budget. Perhaps that means 10 fewer sodas a month, or taking my lunch to work an extra day a week. Perhaps I *gasp* take public transit regularly and cut down on personal fuel and maintenance costs. It is this mentality, accompanied by greed and pride, that is at the core of our governmental problems. Taxes are OUR money. Letting us keep it is not "spending" it.

POPSBrilliant Quote I like direct answers, and it sounds like Murdoch was supplying them. I love the Alaska quote most. He was described as the sharpest at D6. Someone else got funniest.

POPSSanity in U.S. Courts I'm sure it happens more often than not, but it sure is nice to see. p.s. All you ignorant whiners who try to get others to pay for your mistakes - knock it off.

POPSToo Much Government Power Now, in my opinion, the ACLU files a lot of stupid lawsuits, and defends a lot of stupid stuff, but I think they got it right this time. I couldn't agree more with that last paragraph.

POPSHealth Care for Uninsured This program seems very cool. Note that gov't grants/funding would come with significant rules and restrictions (like they always do), so this program eschews them. I wish more states and localities did that. Federal gov't needs to shrink.
1
POPSIllegal Search It seems certain phone companies did not follow the law, nor did they protect their customers' rights, and that should be addressed, not made retroactively legal. Our protections continue to be eroded.

POPSI'm Saddened and Disgusted As if Michael Jons premature departure wasn't bad enough, this is the straw that broke this camel's back. I apparently have nothing in common with the other idol voters, and I will not suffer through Brooke and Jason again. My Idol season is over.

POPSData Archiving This is a brief, but fairly technical article about keeping data safe in the long term. If you're not a geek, you can probably skip it...unless you live with a geek and want to have a discussion about something that interests your geek.

POPSDisgusting Waste As a friend once said to me, we should scrape all the politicians in D.C. off into the Atlantic, and start fresh. It's time to get back to basics.

POPSHero Recognized Take a moment to reflect on the things that truly matter. "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

POPSPregnant "Man" This is not news until someone born without a uterus, and preferably with testicles, gets pregnant...and I'm guessing at that point, they'd better pray for a C-section.

POPSGambling and Privacy Gambling - I don't do much of it, but think it should be a personal choice. What I really find disturbing is whenever laws are "tacked on" to unrelated items, and the complete disdain for privacy that lawmakers continually show.

POPSExpand Your Vocabulary My vocabulary has grown as a result of my reading various fiction. Donaldson is probably the author most responsible for giving it a boost.

POPSInternational Treaty/Domestic Law Perhaps a Texas resident will be subjected to criminal prosecution abroad in violation of treaty, and Texas will have the same luck getting that country to abide by the treaty as Mexico had with us.

POPSAttention Family! In the event of my brain death, please wait awhile before pulling the plug. Thanks! I appreciate it.

POPSDonaldson on Covenant This is a response to a reader-posed comment in Stephen R. Donaldson's "gradual interview" on his website. Even if you're not familiar w/ the story, I thought his position was eloquently stated.
